AW: Trekking in the Sahyadris
Dear Parth,
This seems to be an interesting trekking area which is quite unknown in western countries and it would be great to learn more about trekkingareas in India outside the Himalayas.
But we have one strong rule: advertisements / commercial posts are not allowed! Nevertheless we would be happy to keep you in our community!
So what can you do?
Please don't posts ads / commercial posts, just write about your issue in a neutral manner. Still you could track people to your service by adding a link to your website at your signature; please click here to specify .
If your posts are interesting and full with informations people will be curious who's behind this, so they will click on the link in your signature. There are a couple of travelagents posting at Trekkingforum.com. All of then obey this rule. They are valueable members of our forum and I know that some of them have made good business with members who've got in contact with them by simply clicking their singature's link!
Namaste to Maharashtra,
Andreas, Webmaster and Board-Owner
PS:
- btw you are heartly invited to write and answer in english!
- please keep in mind that linking to your site in the signature demands a backlink to Trekkingforum.com

Re: AW: Trekking in the Sahyadris
Wie geht's Andreas! Mein Deutch ist nicht sehr gut...So i'll speak in English...& try to freshen up my German as we go on into discussions.
I wont post any kind of direct ads...My only interest as far as discussions on this forum are concerned i to make people aware about this area & generate interest. I'll post a link in the sig as you said....Also a link back will be added in the eco links section in our Eco portal www.tekdi.com .
Also If any GPS data of trekking locations around the world is available with any of the members do post it here or at the trekking discussions at www.tekdi.com . We'll put it up on our google maps interface...
Hope i can provide plenty of info & photos about the Sahyadris....
Any suggestions are welcome
Also Andreas i'dlike to invite you over to our trekking forums at TEP ( www.tekdi.com) so that areas other than Indian subcontinent are also represented there.
Cheers!

AW: Trekking in the Sahyadris

AW: Trekking in the Sahyadris

- Akribisch verpackt... Mit Liebe geschnürt... und der Geruch...

Re: Trekking in the Sahyadris
SUGGESTION:
SAHYADRI mountain range is no doubt a hidden experience !
Even INDIAN ADVENTUR LOVERS do not know about this range and PARTH is right when he describes about his website. Guidence from Andreas was also very helpfull as same tectis has been adopted by many operators on INDIAMIKE.
Our office staff is also contributing in various forums and I kown Andreas is very very right.
PARTH: Please choose some other word to express the word FORT. For people who do NOT know about topography and location of SAHYADRI-the word FORT looks like we are talking about something like FORTS OF RAJASTHAN etc.
And do add some pictures here-this will make people more understanding about SAHYADRI MOUNTAIN RANGE.
I shall be more glad to see people taking interest in one of the LESSER KNOWN MOUNTAIN RANGE which is home to a untrapped source of adventure and outdoor activities.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!

Trekking In Sahyadri Mountains
Yes- I have been to SAHYADRI MOUNTAIN RANGE and have enjoyed trekking there-also rock climbing.
1.NANE GHAT
2. HARISHCHANDER GAD
3. BHIMASHANKAR
4. PET KA KILLA
5. TUNGI
6. PADAR GHAR
7. RATAN GAD
8. EXPLORED REGION OF AURANGABAD
9. SARAS GAD
10. KONKAR REGION EXPLORATION
Many names are tough to remember for a NORTH INDIAN but SAHYADRI is just ...something very very different than HIMALAYAS.
** BOTTLED WATER is required during trekking in this mountain range as source of water is usualy OPEN STORAGE OF RAIN WATER
*** A jeepsafari in rains in JULY is most recommended for those who are looking for mind boggling scenes. You will see hundereds of waterfalls going down from mountains among all green background.
**** People who are interested in peeping into SIMPLE and UNPOLLUTED tribal life of this range-should spend sometime there. Still life exists in very very simple form-much much different than in PUNE and MUMBAI. People are very DOWN to EARTH and very very hardworking as earth is rough and water is limited..so they work very hard to get a grain out of it !!
**** Usualy tentes are not required-but it is good to save yourself from insects and keping your luggage safe. There are thousands of caves in this region...dating back to BC era. BUDHHIST impression is marked with classic stone work !!

Re: Trekking In Sahyadri Mountains
Hello Here's some info:
The Sahyadris or the "Western Ghats" are among the most unexplored areas of India. Stretching from Maharashtra to Kerala the Sahyadris are full of rare flora and fauna & dotted with various forts & caves.
Here's a link about the Ratangad Fort:
"Fort" or specifically an Hill Fort : I'll clarify the term fort a bit with respect to the Western Ghats.
Hill Forts are fortifications built on elevations in order to protect the area around it.

Trekking in the Sahyadri Mountain Range
Koyna is good blog and I went through thier posts very carefully. No doubt they have done a great job in providing details of region and treks. I am once again posting some important factors for trekkers and travellers coming from outside MAHARASHTRA.
These points are based on my personal experience -your discussions are welcome either through this forum or write to me at rockaclimba@gmail.com
SAHYADRI MOUNTAINS - WESTERN GHATS
1. This is not well known trekking region by NON-MAHARASHTRIANS.
Belonging to North India and a mountaineering instructor myself-when I first came to know about this range.I consulted websites ...everyone was having computer data but guidence was very poor. Best resource of information came from TREKKING GROUP WEBSITES and TREKKING ASSOCIATIONS. They were very helpful in providing authentic information and DID NOT TALK ABOUT MONEY. Still-when I land there-it was very very tough to get through maps, people and directions.
NOTE: NEVER TRY TO BE IN MOUNTAINS-ON YOUR OWN.
2. Still unexplored.
Some parts of this range are yet to be explored-there are many hidden places ,caves, jungles and high plateus which are not well known and well written about. I had seen one huge wildlife plateu active with tigers, leopards and bisons.
NOTE: THIS IS WONDERFUL LAND-REQUIRE LITTLE BIT TOUGHNESS TO HANDLE SUN,MOISTURE & HEAT BUT REWARD IS MEMORABLE.
3. Active wildlife and tribal life still in the mountains.
Yes-thats true and I wish and pray that it remains like that. I personaly love people out there who are simple,God fearing and look towards us SUPER HUMANS.
4. A thorough preparation is required for outsiders.
For a wesetrner -it is not easy and safe. You have to have local guide with full infrastructure to support yourself. TRANSPORTATION, GOOD GUIDE,HYGENIC FOOD,MINERAL WATER,TENTED ACCOMMODATION is must. DO NOT-I REPEAT DO NOT TRY TO DRINK OPEN WATER/STORED WATER.
NOTE: FULL SUPPORT OF MINERAL WATER and HYGENIC FOOD IS REQUIRED. You have to have medicines with you as medical aid is far far away and that too sometimes un-sufficiant.
5. Besides major towns and matros-much of remote is not having much resorces like LIGHT,WATER,ROADS and above all language and signboards are also a big hurdle.
DO not try to visit any areas with help of maps and internet knowledge.
We have displayed some trails with good information-still we are trying to upgrade and making it more easily understood. Above comments were a strong feeling to write as these mine and my collegues years of experience in SAHYADRI. We are from NORTH INDIA and our clients from "W" also face same factors as displayed above.
I am posting a link here - http://sahyadri.himadventures.net
PICTURE GALLERY FOR SAHYADRI in JULY 2005: http://www.himadventures.net/media-g...nge/index.html
You will find maps, trail details, pictures and relevant information.
WORD OF THANKS: AndreasW for Koyna !
